About

My research focusses on the political history of modern Canada, with a particular emphasis on English-French relations, nationalism, and the politics of national identity.  My most recent project examined the history of federal Canada Day celebrations as an exercise in national identity formation.  I am currently working on a book-length project investigating the history of how bilingualism was promoted and received in English-speaking Canada since the 1960s.

I am the chair of the Canadian Historical Association's Political History Group.  I am also developing a Canadian history book series for Oxford University Press Canada, entitled the "Living History" series.  Since February 2012, I have been the acting editor of the Journal of Canadian Studies.

I also have a cat and a husband to keep me grounded and diverted from my academic life.  (They're not listed in order of importance, despite what the cat seems to think.)
